Hello, I'm Tobias.

I use curiosity to design desirable new experiences.

2012

It’s been a decade now since I started down the path of building digital products full time. I got my start as an independent developer, designing, building and selling an iOS app on the early App Store. This is back when iOS was still at 3.0. The 3Gs was the beast of phones. I abandoned the path I had been following, working at a consultancy firm in the finance sector, to try and make it on my own, follow my real passion. At this point there were no pay checks and no real experience. Just a bit of savings, an idea and a lot of grit and energy. That experience ingrained in me a set of characteristics I carry to this day.

My app did get recognition as an Apple “Staff favorite” and various App Store features. But, monetisation was tricky. There were no in-app purchases just yet, only paid downloads. I soon needed a real job and ended up at Widespace, working on a white labeled radio app that came with audio ads out of the box.

2013

In 2013 I joined one of the most hyped companies around, MAG Interactive. Just before the hit-game Ruzzle came soaring through the App Store top charts, at a sustained pace of 700.000 downloads per day. Insane traction. I wanted to learn what these guys seemed to have figured out. How did they build a sustainable business? I worked as a game designer and prototyper, both on early stage game prototypes and games with 6 million (!) daily active users. When mistakes were made, and they were, we would hear about it!

2015

In 2015, I got an offer from an angel investor to form my own little outfit, 44, with the ambition of building a consumer app studio. We started out building a calendar, with a unique visual identity. I learned a whole heap through building, running and improving this app. It sounds very small, but taking end-to-end responsibility teaches you to go both deep and broad. Vantage has been downloaded more than 2 million times, have made a couple million kronor worth of income, has been both the App Store’s “Free App of the Week” and their “App of the Day”. It has also been pre-installed in Apple Stores on demo phones. I’m proud of having achieved that.

2023

For the past five years I’ve taken what I’ve learned from small apps and casual games and applied it to the role of Product Designer, at Schibstedt, as a freelancer for small start-ups, at Qapital and at Lunar. Lately, I’ve felt like I’ve completed the circle back to where I started - the finance sector. The place where I first got my education and my first job. And now I’m back from the future, bringing the gifts of design, tech, curiosity and customer centric thinking.
